Wonderful visit! Raúl Ayala is not only an amazing artist and craftsman, but also a fantastic storyteller who shares the history of the vejigante tradition. It was inspiring to see him continuing the legacy of his father and keeping this beautiful Puerto Rican art form alive.

Great historic little place. I remember visiting it back in the 1970's as a child. My son and I had a great conversation with Tito Ayala. Great people!

The place to go in Loiza for vegigante masks. The owners, Ayalla family, are well known in the whole country for their contributions to the Puerto Rican folklore and arts. Since Maria they cannot make full masks for sale, as the coconuts are not large enough yet, but the masks are still beautiful.

This shop is local and authentic. However, we were looking for smaller versions of Vejigantes. We asked where we could find them, and the lady, who worked there, kindly explained us how to get to another shop which is a minute walking away. When you’re facing the building, its right around the right corner. The place is called Artesanias Celele Pizarro (we indicated it on the map because it wasn’t registered there). He has lots of beautiful pieces of art, both big and small - we highly recommend! The man is so humble and creative, we got a beautiful and cute gift for our home.

Charming little family-run shop. The proprietor was knowledgeable and explained the entire mask-making process. Very patient with the children.
