Queen Juliana Bridge

We had a spectacular view from the Queen Juliana Bridge, which was built to solve traffic problems in Willemstad, Curaçao. Before its construction, vehicles crossed Sint Anna Bay using the Queen Emma Bridge, a floating pontoon bridge that had to open whenever ships entered or left the harbor. As shipping activity increased, the Queen Juliana Bridge was designed high enough for large ships to pass underneath while allowing traffic to flow freely between Punda and Otrobanda. From the bridge, we enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views of the colorful waterfront of Willemstad, the historic districts of Punda and Otrobanda, and the busy Schottegat harbor spread out below us.

Engineering marvel. Pretty cool. I haven't seen anyone walk over it on foot (yet) but I am sure they do. Feels crazy to drive over and takes my breath away.

Cool bridge. If you think heights are less than good, like my wife, take the long way around. Heck of a view.

Floating bridge which connects Punda to Otrobanda. The bridge opens when a ship comes in and ferries are available to move pedestrians during this process. Can you really walk on water? Just ask the Dutch engineers!
