Our reservation made months before was all of a sudden canceled to accomodate a larger group. Completely unethical.

Ancient Grove is a beautiful, top class establishment. 18 of us just spent a very special week here topped off by a superb Wedding. Great facilities, views, and vibe put a smile on everyone's face. Speights Town is a convenient seven minute drive away.. So yes, I totally recommend Ancient Grove.

The house is nestled in what felt like the jungle. The view is breathtaking. One can see beautiful birds flying and singing all day, with a backdrop of the ocean. The air is fresh and peaceful. The infinity pool is gorgeous and looks just like the pictures, but the water is cold and is shared with the neighboring airbnb. The chairs by the pool are old, but functional. The house was spacious, and well designed. The room in the lower level was big, but did not feel clean. It smelled of mold when we walked in. I wanted to take a shower after a long trip and found towels, all of which felt damp. In addition, the sheets on the bed were stained and uninviting. We soon noticed that there were black spots all over the ceiling, affirming for us that there was indeed mold. Because of this, we ended up sleeping in the living room on the couch. The next morning, one member of our party alerted the owners of our concerns. After a few text messages back and forth, where we were told that it was not mold but mildew ( same thing) and that mildew is not dangerous, but they they would send the property manager. I want to note that while the effects of how mold exposure manifests can differ in each person, for people who have asthma, those who are allergic to mold, or have weakened immune systems, just a small amount of exposure can be harmful. We had a pregnant woman with us and this concerned us. It felt dismissive to be told that it was not dangerous. Nonetheless, the property manager was very kind and brought bleach with him to clean the walls. He also left a note with chocolate and a bottle of wine, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, however, this did not fix the fact that due to the above, we were unable to sleep in the room we paid for.
Finally, there were limited cleaning products, pots and pans, as well as toilet paper. We ended up having to buy our own. On the second day we found dead cockroaches in one of the kitchen drawers.
While we understand that things like this can happen on an island, for the cost of the home, we expected that the house would be in top condition. The effort to address the issues was made, but it did not feel good that we had to deal with that on vacation. We wished the owners would have considered the impact of such an experience, especially while on a vacation, particularly the fact that we had to sleep on the couch. After the trip they provided us with a 300 dollar compensation for our troubles, but in truth, this did not feel sufficient. We made the best of it and enjoyed ourselves, despite it all. The beach is about a 20 minute drive. Our favorite was Mullins beach.

This is the place to be when in Barbados especially when you have a big group, wants to connect with nature, tired of the busy city life, want some piece and quiet, and enjoy a good scenery. The place is spacious, have a pool, a nice spread of land, WiFi connection and all the necessary amenities to vocation in comfort..

There is some type of generator or pump that comes on every 10 mins, and is located right outside the bedrooms😕. They need to rectify that because the scenery is amazing as well as the property. Also it is advertised as a 5 bedroom property but only 4 rooms were available as 1 of the rooms is used for storage, which the owner only indicated a day prior to checkin.. Once these issues are rectified the property will be 5 stars in my books.
