(01/2026) This was one of the worst ferry experiences we have ever had while traveling — especially considering that a round-trip ticket with this monopoly operator costs USD 107 per person including fees (we bought the tickets online in advance). Unfortunately, there is no other realistic way to get to Barbuda independently (e.g. if you have a Barbuda tour booked with Hillside Tours), so be prepared for the following. The two-hour crossing between the islands is operated by a rather outdated boat with a capacity of around 70 passengers. Only about one quarter of them can sit on proper seats inside the cabin; the rest must sit on the lower or upper outdoor decks. Apart from the first and last 15–20 minutes, the journey through rough seas leaves you exposed to strong wind, cold, and constant waves. Expect to be wet and freezing if you are outside. Anyone prone to seasickness will likely be vomiting. Unfortunately (!!), we traveled outbound on the upper deck, which was a complete disaster. On the way back, we chose to sit inside on the metal stairs instead. There was only one clean toilet for the entire boat. Arrive very early if you want a seat inside the cabin. For this outrageously high price, the level of service is simply unacceptable. The one star is solely for getting us there and back safely.

Barbuda Review – A Dream You Must Experience Barbuda is, without exaggeration, one of the most breathtaking places I have ever visited. The island feels untouched, pure, and peaceful in a way that is becoming incredibly rare in today’s world. The beaches here are not just beautiful—they are heavenly. The soft pink coral sand, the endless stretch of turquoise water, and the complete tranquility create a setting that stays in your heart forever. Getting there can sometimes mean crossing a slightly rough sea, but with simple motion-sickness medicine the journey becomes absolutely manageable—my wife took it, and she had no problem at all. And once you arrive, you instantly understand that every minute of the trip is worth it a hundred times over. If you can, stay at least one night. Barbuda at sunset and sunrise is a completely different kind of magic—calm, glowing, and almost surreal. You won’t want to rush back. And then there is Princess Diana Beach. Truly a paradise in its purest form. Powdery sand, shallow waters that shine like liquid crystal, and an atmosphere so peaceful it feels like the world has paused just for you. It’s the kind of place you see in movies and postcards—but in real life, it’s even better. Barbuda is a must-go destination. Stunning, serene, and unforgettable. If you love beaches, beauty, and nature in its most pristine state, this island will take your breath away.

Took the Leeward Express with my wife over to Barbuda last week. Was delayed on exit from Antigua by about 40 mins due to a cruise ship docking which they couldn't help. The ride was no different to any trip across open ocean on an average day in a similar sized boat from experience. Departed on time from Barbuda and had 0 issues. Staff were friendly. Word of advice to tourists dont expect this to be a dedicated ship for you like an island tour, locals use this to go to work and for transportation of cargo as well. It can be busy and seating limited.

We used the ferry last week and we were extremely pleased with the service received. The weather caused the ferry crossing to be cancelled a couple of times and we were updated straight away so we could alter our plans accordingly and were grateful for this. The staff are very friendly and we found the crossing enjoyable. We booked in advance and we recommend this to then receive updates and details straight to your phone. Well worth it to see beautiful Barbuda. Thank you!

Either skip Barbuda or fly there! This was the worst experience I’ve ever had on a ferry. So not worth it. The ferry isn’t appropriately equipped. There isn’t enough room to sit inside and they allow ppl the lay out in the lower room. The waves come up so high so it doesn’t matter where you sit: Once you sit outside whether up top or down below you will be getting drenched. And I do mean from head to toe. A horrible experience didn’t even deserve the one star.
