Beyond the Box is one of the main reasons my husband and I decided we wanted to stay in Barbados and finish raising our kids here. As former gifted kids ourselves, we have a lot of issues with the conventional education model (despite doing very well in it). Beyond the Box meets students where they are and allows room to customize what learning looks like for each student. This allows our youngest, who has struggled with rigid, prescriptive school formats, to learn and succeed at his own pace. It also pushes our older child to explore his full potential instead of just coasting through on intelligence and minimal effort like he had been doing before we moved. I feel like both of my children have developed a passion for learning that was absent in their previous schooling experiences.

Absolutely love this school! My son is in the infants class, and he constantly tells me how much he loves it — often without me even asking. The teachers are incredibly caring and thoughtful, and their communication with parents is phenomenal. They keep us informed about even the smallest things and send weekly photo updates of the children, which we really appreciate. One thing that really stands out is the focus on interpersonal and social skills in the early years. The children genuinely get along so well with one another, and there’s such a warm, respectful atmosphere in the class. The teachers truly treat every child as an individual. They have such an in-depth understanding of each child’s personality, how they learn best, and the best ways to support and encourage them. I also really appreciate their approach to reading and academics in the early years. They don’t push children before they’re ready, but instead allow learning to develop naturally and confidently. Ironically, because of this low-pressure approach, most of the children become excited and motivated to learn to read, count, and explore new things quite early on. The school uses a project-based learning approach, where each child chooses a topic or question they’re genuinely interested in and then explores it in depth. Along the way, they naturally learn English, Maths, Science, and other subjects through their projects. The teachers put so much thought into planning each one to ensure all areas of learning are integrated seamlessly, and they do an amazing job. The children also go on lots of field trips and regularly have guest speakers visit, which makes learning feel exciting and connected to the real world. What I especially love is how the school encourages the children to think about the positive impact they can have on their community. During one project about red pandas, the children created calendars to raise money to sponsor red pandas in the wild. In another, they designed and built recycling bins for the school. They’ve even had mini monster trucks visit the school and then followed it up with a colour theory painting activity using tempera paints on one of the parents’ white Jimnys. The teachers are incredibly imaginative and always finding creative ways to make learning memorable and fun. Another wonderful bonus is that The Farmhouse next door offers delicious, nutritionally balanced hot meals three days a week. And the school grounds themselves are absolutely beautiful, with an incredible breeze almost all the time. It’s such a peaceful, welcoming environment for children to learn and grow. I could honestly go on, but I don’t want to write a novel about it!

Beyond the Box Education has been an amazing experience for my daughter and for us as a family. Since joining, she’s been calmer, happier, and far more engaged in learning. She has been absolutely thriving! What I appreciate most is that the school truly sees each child as an individual instead of trying to force every child into the same mold. The support, patience, and genuine care from the staff make a huge difference - feels like family. This school is something really special. I'm incredibly grateful for the impact it’s had on my daughter, and wouldn't trade this experience for anything.

As an advisor (teacher) at BTBE, I have had the privilege of witnessing what makes this school so special. BTBE truly sees each child as an individual, valuing their interests, strengths, and voice in the learning process. Watching students grow in confidence, curiosity, and real-world skills through meaningful, personalised learning has been incredibly rewarding. BTBE is more than a school, it is a community that genuinely cares about helping children thrive.
