Feedback
Full disclosure, we had issues and decided to leave after two nights. We didn’t contact the host to fix anything, but instead left, asked for a refund of the remaining nights and cleaning fee which was rejected. If you feel that makes this review unreliable then please ignore. But here’s my honest review.
Pros
It’s right on the sea
The sound of the waves is great to fall asleep to
It’s opposite a petrol station/mini mart (positive/negative)
The house is well equipped, but no salt pepper oil.
Bed was comfortable but noisy.
Quite cheap.
Fairly new appliances.
Decking is nice space, except camera issue.
The host was friendly (before we complained).
Cons
The beach doesn’t live up to the pictures. It’s small and the water comes pretty much right up to the front of the deck. There is a space on either side of the property with some more space. One is okay with a corrugated metal wall behind it. The other looks more like a junkyard. The area of water is very rocky, not somewhere you can swim. Have to wander along the coast to the nearby beaches for that.
Property is on a noisy main road but can’t hear from the main bedroom.
Lots of windows for ventilation but without mosquito nets on most.
Metal bars and multiple locks on doors and windows. The host insisted they have never had any issues and that it’s just for our safety. Personally just made me think the area wasn’t safe.
Air conditioner made an annoying ticking noise from the outside machine.
There were multiple cameras outside which was fine, but one was pointing directly on the decking which we didn’t like.
Pretty warm in the house even with all the windows open. This seems pretty common for homes in Barbados, if you want an air conditioner throughout then a hotel would be better suited.
Coloured towels, never a fan of this as can’t see if clean. There were also some white towels.
The main issue we had was with cleanliness.
The bed sheets in the main room had stains on them. We ended up pulling the sheets from another bed as they were clean.
The floor mats next to the secondary bedroom bed had dirt on them.
Dirty sponge in kitchen, with no replacement.
Dirty plates,cups cutlery.
General dirt in corners of rooms.
Fan was dirty and greasy.
There was nothing obviously wrong when we checked in, but we uncovered these issues over a couple of days and decided to leave. Admittedly we did just up and leave, but im glad we did as the response was not great. I first messaged the host explaining what was happening and asking for the refund. The host sent his housekeeper over to inspect and she said there were no cleanliness issues. We were told by the host and Air BnB support that the host watched the cleaners clean everything so it cant have been dirty. I shared pictures directly with support which showed the issues, including the stained sheets which was time stamped from the first night before we slept in them. We were also told both by the host and air bnb support that we should have raised the issues at checkin. I responded with air bnbs own policy that you have 72hrs to raise issues and they ignored this. The reaction from the host wasn’t great, but I guess people take things much more personally when it’s their own home (the host used to live here). But air bnbs refusal to follow their own policy is terrible. That hasn’t factored into this review as that will be a 0 star, but good to be aware of. Check their trustpilot!
No hard feelings to the host. Wish you the best.
Depending on what you’re looking for, this place may be for you, but it wasn’t for us.

This guest house is amazing. It is in a central location just minutes away from shopping areas and walking distance to the beach area for swimming. You open up the windows and walk onto the deck to see the Atlantic. You go to bed and wake up to the songs of the ocean. It is very clean and neat and costs reasonable. We always felt safe in the area. We highly recommend Darrel Cot as a vacation spot.

We loved the large deck right next to the ocean - it was perfect for enjoying the sunset after our one year old went to bed. We were happy with everything provided in the kitchen - great for cooking meals - and happy to be able to do laundry. The hosts were super kind and responsive over WhatsApp. The place was cleaned very thoroughly partially through our one week stay - we really appreciated that! We loved being able to swim behind the house and over to the nearby beach - although the beach was gone during out visit and the water was shallow with rocks close to the surface so we had to be quite careful. Overall a really good experience.
We had issues with the air conditioning sensors in the bedrooms. Our one year old was too small to activate the one in the second bedroom so we had to get up multiple times at night to turn it back on. We mentioned this to our host so that they could consider it if/when there is another small child in that room. In the master room the air conditioner sensor blinked red all night and woke me up if I was facing it - so I could only sleep facing the right during the trip. Also, there were very loud crickets outside the house during our stay, but we were used to them by the third night and actually enjoyed them a bit. The road noise can also be loud, but not so bad if you use the fan provided. You may want to bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper.

Idyllic waterfront location . Barry was so helpful and kind and the little house is just fantastic. We absolutely loved it and will definitely be returning.
What a hidden gem!
