The location for the threshold population in the area and nearby community is perfect. Hours of operation are convenient. Customer service - needs to improve greatly. The cashiers and staff operate on a subpar level - this comment is constructive feedback to improve your business and not to cast judgment. I opted to come to your establishment than order online or head to Nelson's, whose customer service and staff are excellent. Again, it is a comparison used to help you think: what other businesses do that I can use to improve my business? What makes service at IGA different from what I am giving the community? How can I improve my customer service to a standard that of a global perspective? How can I ensure my staff is equipped to serve all customers? As a business consultant, I help businesses improve their services and gain a more global perspective and way of operating. Hence the above is for your consideration.
My experience was mediocre - the staff would not go to the side or ask for excuses; they just assumed you should move out of their way. Asking the darker lady a question seemed like a task; there needed to be better customer service there. Your business should operate at a higher standard for all paying customers, locals, foreigners, and returning nationals on vacation. One customer must be able to bag their groceries before another is being serviced on the small counter provided. Staff must have a global perspective and step away from treating a black person (local or not) differently than a white person. It is a pandemic in Grenada from the colonial days - a black person comes, you treat them harshly and judgmental, then a white person comes, and customer service blossoms. Where was that for your kind? I've experienced this behavior at customs at the airport and other areas around Grenada. With education and technology in this new age, one would think we would dismiss that colonial mentality that only further erodes our society from growing and aspiring as one people - hint our motto. We must consciously train our people to be courteous to our people and treat them as they would like to be treated if they entered another establishment. Again, it seems like I have stepped back in time, where someone speaking on their cell phone using their headset/AirPods comes across as weird and strange. Yes, people walk and talk on cell phones using headsets worldwide. And it baffled me that as my conversations proceeded on my cellphone with unlimited data from T-mobile, and as I shopped, I spoke loudly as I do in the US, especially when catching up with friends in Grenada, a short man in there who heard me say something about Jesus - again "Conversation on my device" - turned around as if the phrase was weird to him or I can't tell, but his reaction and energy was again rooted in the above. The next thing I knew, as I proceeded to shop and converse with my friend, a worker light-skinned young man approached me and made a comment about Jesus (not judging this young man and his belief - but how timely was his alluding to what I mentioned to my friend on the phone). I will infer here that the short man (in his limited scope) made mention of my conversation to allude to the weirdness of someone speaking on their cell phone using a headset/airPod. Again this young man did not have any customer service as he charged in my direction to make his comment, yet I am a paying customer. Question: would this have occurred if I was white? If so, our geographical location limits our mentality despite having a TV, technology, and other means to see and experience another way of life. Sadly, our people are so left behind in the world.
