While my wife and I were vacationing in Barbados with friends, we spent one afternoon visiting the Mt Gay rum distillery. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the entire experience, from beginning to end, was friendly, professional, and welcoming. Our guide Damien (sp?) was exceptional and provided a wealth of information about the history of sugarcane, molasses, and (of course!) RUM on the island. The tour was capped off by a rum tasting in the distillery’s beautiful tasting room… perfect! We highly recommend this to anyone visiting Barbados.

My son, a dear friend, and I booked the morning tour yesterday. It was most informative. Damien did an excellent job. He is very knowledgeable. I was the oldest one in the group. I have some trouble going up slopes. Damien was very caring and made sure that I was doing well along the trip. My friend Orville, a native Barbadian, remarked that he learned much that he never knew about the making of Rome. I highly recommend the tour. It was a relatively small group of people. Approximately 17 people. Damien made sure that we all understood as much as we want to about the process. Period.

Big shout out to Chico Rico, our most knowledgable, entertaining and engaging tour guide. He gave us a 300+ year lesson on the history of Barbados and rum making. At the end he showed that he is a true rum connoisseur through his demonstrations and explanations.
The only downside to this tour was having to engage with the security guard at the entrance who was extremely rude and behaved as though he’s being forced to do job - please provide some training for him.

Do this tour! Walk in, and you are greeted with a rum punch! Extremely knowledgeable tour guide takes you around the entire distillery! From the water well, to the bays where molasses is stored! Got to sample molasses the company imports versus the molasses that is locally made on the island. Smell the ethanol put of the sills, walk through the entire plant, including the massive storage where they have over 50 000 barrels. End it with a rum tasting of 4 of their rums! Awesome experience, highly recommend! Must wear shoes, no tank tops, and make sure to reserve online in advance!

I’m a Mt Gay rum drinker so naturally I had to take this tour while on the island. Mr. Jones (RJ) was a knowledgeable and friendly guide through the process and had a detailed answer to all my questions. I recommend hiring a taxi or other means to get there as they actually give you a lot of alcohol. I had to ask for smaller portions to ensure I can remember to stay on the left side of the roads on the way back home! ;) This place has been making rum for 300 years which is truly something to behold. You can feel the spirit of the 1000s of people who lived, loved, laboured, and suffered here to produce and refine this fine product for generations. Some by choice, some not. I will think of them every time I take a sip of my favourite rum beverage. Cheers!
