Incredible in every way - service (Chef Richard and Auntie), proximity to one of the best beaches (Friar’s Bay), and truly exceptional food. It’s rated 5 stars for a reason and was the best food we had on the island. Our 3 kids ages 5, 10, and 11 finished their entire plate and said they could have eaten a second meal each. We will go back the next day they’re open and every return trip to St Maarten - probably several times 😉 We had ribs, chicken, and shrimp - all were delicious! Chef Richard came out to say hi when we arrived and gave our kids a mango to feed to the pet turtle.

This was one of our favorite places to eat in St. Martin. The food was incredibly delicious and full of flavor, and the seafood was very fresh. We enjoyed it so much that we came for lunch and then returned the same day for dinner. The owner and chef was genuinely kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Prices are very reasonable, and we highly recommend this café.

Our review is like every other I’ve read about Gutside. The owners Richard and Lourdis are exceptional hosts. We enjoyed the conversation as much as the food. We had the Snapper Filet and the Conch. The hot sauce offered was so good we bought more to go. Go out of your way to find this (quite) hidden gem. Going to Friars Bay it is on the right side shortly after the left turn from main road. The entire island has blossomed with many great restaurants over the years. So glad we finally stopped here.

Uncle Richard came outside to introduce himself when we drove by and were contemplating going in for lunch. That doesn't happen very often. Richard does it all here, that is until his wife Lourdis shows up. What a wonderful couple obviously enjoying preparing and serving their amazing home style meals. We had the snapper fillet and whole snapper. The rice, vegetables and plantains were great too.
If you find yourself anywhere near Friars Bay Beach, you must stop and enjoy Gutside.

We had a wonderful eating experience at The Gutside. From the moment we arrived Lourdes and Richard welcomed us and made us feel at home with them. They had an excellent rapport with us and prepared a great meal of fish, chicken and ribs. Hearty portions washed down with some island beers. The Gutside is a local establishment with a great island vibe. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Friar’s Bay.
