Hippopotamus Steakhouse Guadeloupe

I ate at Hippopotamus and had a really good experience. The bavette steak was excellent and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes were good, just missing a bit of sauce. I finished with a crème brûlée that was really good too. Service was perfect, the waitress took her time to explain the menu and sides which I really appreciated.

Well that was Disappointing, don't be fooled by the fancy themed decor and service staff, it just a polished fast food place and to be honest not a very good one and expensive for what you get, the service guy told our order with instructions in English and french for no cheese and no burger sauce, I told him twice, my wife said he didn't take it in, my burger was covered in sauce but no cheese even after scrapping it off the burger was small and less then a McDonald's at the same price, lots of chips but bland my wife's salad was dreadful very little in it apart from green leaves, so it won't be on our list of go to restaurant ever.

We called in here for a late lunch on our way to the airport and both had the set menu, one with starter and main, one with main and dessert. It was reasonably busy when we arrived but the staff seemed very disorganised, it took a while to place our order, then ages for the starter (poached egg with mushrooms) to arrive. The egg was overcooked, completely solid, and the mushroom and sauce were completely cold (maybe that's how it comes but it was very weird). We then had to wait ages for our mains. The steak was overcooked (not a pointe as I ordered) and again, was barely warm. The fish and chips was more like fish fingers. By now there weren't many customers left. We waited again for about 15 minutes for the dessert ( just iles flottante so no preparation to do really) but by this point we were worried about missing our flight so we paid the bill and left. The waiter did comment that we hadn't had our dessert and had the grace to apologise, but we were still charged for 2 set menus. Very disappointing food and very slow service. Also, there was no air conditioning (or it isn't very efficient) so the whole room was unpleasantly hot. The worst meal by far we had during 10 days in Guadeloupe and a disappointing last meal of our holiday. Since the reply from Hippopotamus I have emailed them as requested but have had no response!

I really loved this restaurant. This is my first time here this trip and I'm really disappointed. I usually do steak, fillet or entrecot but decided to try something new, and I did. I was deeply disappointed. The potions were really small compared to the images provided to entice persons. When we started eating we realised that there were no forks on the table 🤣🤣🤣🤣. At least the quality is consistent. I left hungry... 😤😤😤

Despite saying we had to catch a flight, after waiting an hour for our order, it arrived lukewarm at best. This place would be out of business if it was anywhere else in France. We go a lot in Bordeaux. Much better there!
