Barbados
A small, polite island with high morals and poor, God-fearing people. They eat boiled eggs for breakfast because oil is expensive there, and for lunch they eat boiled corn on the cob (called misir in Turkey), and for dinner they have a stew made from tree leaves. What I wrote is not an exaggeration; whoever eats rice and stew there, their mother must have prayed for them. They only eat meat on holidays. The people are very poor, but happy. They just dance and sing. I saw a bride sitting under a tree while the makeup artist was doing her makeup on the ground, in the open air, and she was so happy. Simplicity is beautiful, and happiness doesn't come from money, but from peace of mind. Anyway, this country is 34 kilometers wide by 23 kilometers long, so its area is like the distance from Kirkuk to Mulla Abdullah and from Kirkuk to Taza. I drew it for you as an area in one of the pictures in the post. You can cover this sweet little country in an hour by car. There's nothing remarkable about it except two mountains, two beaches, and seven restaurants in the entire country. It became a republic in 2021, so its republic is three years old. Just before that, it was a British Crown dependency and part of the Commonwealth.
Of course, the name Barbados means "bearded ones," referring to people with long beards. This was a name Europeans often used to refer to Arabs, and Muslims in particular. Portuguese and Spanish accounts mention that bearded men did indeed resist the initial colonial campaigns on the island. So, who were these bearded men? The answer will be in our forthcoming book, which will be published in about a year. The army and police force numbers only 610 personnel, equipped with 120 machine guns, 6 warships in the navy, and just one anti-aircraft machine gun.
