The history of slavery is one which needs to be told. Seen memorials on different places in the world. They all make you silent.
Concerning the monument itself: it’s not to most impressive. But anyway a place which deserves to be visited.

Visiting the Marches des Esclaves in Petit-Canal is a moving experience that stays with you. Climbing those 54 stone steps—each one marked with the names of the African ethnic groups like the Yorubas and Congos, I felt a profound sense of weight and history, knowing they lead to the esplanade where people were once sold.

This was a sobering visit but I was disappointed to learn, when reading the information panels, that the steps weren't actually built until after the abolition of slavery. It is a little run down, but it was worth spending half an hour here.

There is little to see here apart from the old steps the old prison and a history museum it's worth stopping by if you are in the area just to capture some photos

I really wanted to visit this place, to see and to imagine how it was during those times for a slave to arrive in Guadeloupe. Of course, I will never experience the same, and the only thing that remains are the steps, and the prison, that is down the road. In all honesty, if you don't have the time, just skip this place.
