As others have said the road deteriorates to the point when a 4x4 with high clearance would definitely be preferable. I managed to get my standard hire car up to the top but that's a drive not for the feint hearted and not in the rainy season. If you don't know about driving off road then it would be risky.
It's completely closed down now and nature is quickly overtaking in a delightful way. It's peaceful, beautiful and a chance to witness the forest in it's natural state

Visited this waterfall with a guide from father nature, the access isn't easy and the road isn't in good condition, just suitable for a 4x4 car. We left the car half way and walked the rest, it was a quite nice walk. The waterfall used to have an entry fee but not anymore. The place is quite remote, there is no one there, nowadays visited by the locals and the tourist guide that knows the place.
It was worth the visit, it's a very peaceful and relaxing place. The swimming area is not deep and the water has a nice temperature.
Not suitable for people with reduced mobility. There are no toilets.
Recommended to visit with a guide.

Just the most beautiful place. The drive up does require a 4X4, or it is a rather long walk. Luckily we had a small Suzuki Jeep and it breezed the trip up to the falls.
There's an informal sign that says it's $10ECD but when we went there was not a soul in sight to pay. I think it's just the locals chancing their arm to make a crust. We ignored this.
There is a small changing area, that has fallen into disrepair and been abandoned, it looks like a project that never took off.
After speaking to locals, they said it was only really used by them. Which is good for us, it's remote, peaceful and unspoiled by tourism.
The falls are cool, clean, and refreshing. It's a romantic spot. The pool for bathing in was lovely, just a few crayfish, nothing bad.
We saw no snakes on the short walk to it, no spiders, I think this is just folk stories if anyone tells you they are there.
This is simply a lovely place to visit. Highly recommended.

Excellent little place to stop! The lady at the bottom of the street said we shouldn’t go up there because it’s dangerous and there’s no security...but being a white American tourist I decided that I’d risk it, haha!
A couple minutes up the road, and the people that collect the money came out and I gave them $20 EC for myself and my wife. 2 miles later we parked and less than 5 minutes we were at the falls. Great place! The hours listed seem to be wrong, I’m sure it’s open all the time. The last part of the road would be a little rough for a low 2wd car, but probably make it. Everyone else we saw was friendly.

We visited the falls in July, 2017. The road/path in grows increasingly less well maintained and in rainy times can be difficult to traverse without 4WD. The path opens out into a grassy parking area with a hut where an attendant collects the fee. There was no attendant during our visit. The rest of the way in is a rugged and wet footpath. There is a rustic hut where you can leave your things while swimming. The pool was murky and man-made. They have created a low wall to trap the water. The falls are more like water running down stair-steps, with actual stairs carved in the rock for climbing. I'm giving it low marks for difficult and aesthetics as we have been to several of the other falls and fount them to be far better than this one. It was nice to have it all to ourselves however.
