I am currently staying at the Sunbay hotel.....and I will say firstly that the staff is amazing, they are truly the saving grace for this establishment. This hotel needs a tru revamp..it feels like an old folks home and i do not mean that in a derogatory way its just not for the person, couple, or family looking for some energy in their stay. They say they have complimentary breakfast yet they declined to say that they ration off the portions...real eggs are a luxury.. powdered eggs and beans are served daily..the "bar" closes at 5 the restaurant is not up to par for even what many would consider to be a local dive in their neighborhood...I had no hot water...no tv..no wash cloths...just a bad first day..I was moved into another room which I was happy for. Like I said to start the staff was amazing..but the facility was not...stay to find out for yourself

The hotel looks nice in the pictures online, and even looks ok when you walk through the lobby to the pool, but the rooms are a different story. Peeling paint, leaky ceilings with water stains everywhere, no blankets or spreads on the beds, minimal toiletries, and very poor water pressure. No coffee/tea in the rooms, housekeeping only every other day and they don’t always leave enough clean towels, and the front desk staff will not do anything about any housekeeping issues when housekeeping is not on site, which is before 5pm and not until after 8:30 AM. About 25% of the front desk staff were friendly and helpful, the rest would rather stare at their phones or laptops than help you. The breakfast staff were fine, but the food was below average and repetitive with minimal variety. Parking was adequate because the hotel was half empty and few people had cars. The onsite restaurant is only open two nights per week. There is not much shopping or dining within easy walking distance. Traffic is pretty bad at rush hour.

I stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and found ants in the bedroom. The pool was dirty. Asked for a different room the staff did their very best. Breakfast wasn’t that bad The reception ladies were very polite and helpful. The hotel needs a lot of work, including cleaning and maintenance, as well as a swimming pool.

The room I had was very late 70s bamboo furniture and everything was painted yellow. Certainly needed some repairs and the shower wasn't worth attempting.
But the staff were polite and helpful.
Breakfast o er the 2 days were quite poor but the coffee and fruit juice were delicious.

We are part way through our stay at Sunbay. They keep saying they are a budget hotel but this trip cost more than most 4 or star all-inclusive hotels I've stayed in in Europe, more than the nightly rate I paid at the MGM grand in Las Vegas last October and more than most 4* hotels I've stayed at in the UK. However, compared to the hotels around the area it is cheaper as the are next to some really luxe places such as Sandals which is incomparable. I'm comparing Sunbay to its own social media which let's it down a little as the reality doesn't match your expectations. The hotel is fine, the staff are fine, the beds are OK. There is a bit of a musty smell in the room and when you initially turn on the air conditioning. This could be rectified by opening the doors and letting some air in, which I'm not going to do as the mosquitos and other bugs are feasting on me! Reception are lovely and the lady who organises the trips is helpful. The security, garden and wait staff are all really friendly. Haven't tried lunch and dinner as its a little over priced for a 3 star and compared to what's around locally. If they got the price point right they could do better with the restaurant as the cook is talented and they have great facilities.
The pool is great as there is a 55cm pool which is great for kids then another much deeper plunge pool. We have always been able to get a lounger and they are well maintained.
The room is clean, the bathroom spacious with a large balcony with a pool view that has two chairs and a table. It would benefit from somewhere to hang your swimwear to dry. The AC works well and cools the room quickly. The TV has lots of options such as movies from HBO.
The location is good, the beach is close by, if you want a lifeguard on duty yoh can walk up to Sandals . All the beaches are public so you can spread your towel on the ground anywhere. There are shops and restaurants near by and you can also use the restaurants in the other hotels. There is a bus nearby and its easy to get a taxi.
The services
Free WiFi in your room and in public areas.
There is TV in the lobby area and yoh can sit and play games. The pool is open 7am to 7pm. Breakfast is from 7.30am
